Rhythm Bath is a dance performance-installation that investigates what makes performance environments welcoming to both neurodiverse and neurotypical audiences. It is being designed from the start with neurodiverse advisors, with choreography by Susan Marshall in collaboration with the dancers, and set design by Mimi Lien. Rhythm Bath is co-produced by the Institute on Disabilities at Temple University.

Enter a surprising and transporting space of shifting fabric, light, and dance, in which you may sit, stand, walk, and wander. The durational performance-installation lasts approximately one hour; you may come and go as you please.

Your feedback will be appreciated—but not obligatory—and would be extremely valuable as we develop this work. We'll gather afterwards for conversation and refreshments.

A few requests for audience members:

  • Proof of Covid-19 vaccination required; masks encouraged.

  • No heels or hard-soled shoes.

  • For neurodiverse audience members who need support, we appreciate you coming with your assistant or family.

Rhythm Bath is being developed at the Clark Theater in April 2023 as part of Mimi Lien's artistic residency at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.

The development of Rhythm Bath is also made possible with support from the National Endowment for the Arts; the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation; the New England Foundation for the Arts' National Dance Project, with lead funding from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and the Mellon Foundation; PEAK Performances at Montclair State UniversityThe Pew Center for Arts & Heritage; Princeton University's Lewis Center for the Arts; and generous individuals.
